Moon Milk… an Ayurvedic sleep-aid remedy, in blue.

Here are the main ingredients and how they help:
Warm milk is already known for it’s calming and sleep-inducing effect, but two ingredients you may be less familiar with are Butterfly Pea Flowers and Ashwagandha.
Butterfly Pea Flowers create the most beautiful midnight blue colour when steeped as a tea. If you add a squeeze of lemon (acid), the colour changes to rich violet. Add hibiscus flowers and it turns bright red. According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, butterfly pea is highly regarded in Ayurvedic medicine and “has been used for centuries as a memory enhancer, nootropic, antistress, anxiolytic, antidepressant, anticonvulsant, tranquilizing and sedative agent.” We use the powder form because it lets you skip the steeping process and add all the ingredients into a pot to whisk and heat on the stove. Also referred to as ‘Blue Matcha’, it’s caffeine-free making it ideal before bed.
Ashwagandha is a plant who’s roots and berries are known for helping the body cope with daily stress, calming the brain, reducing swelling/inflammation, and lowering blood pressure. If taken over the course of a few weeks, it’s said to help our body reset cortisol levels; in turn, regulating sleeping patterns and lowering anxiety/restlessness. This is just a short list of Ashwagandha’s health benefits since we’re focusing on the ones that are beneficial for sleep, but there’s a long list of reasons why this plant is so precious to Ayurveda and our well being.
